Delivery
Local-warehouse items in days; check the estimate per item
Details

Temu says orders take 1–3 days to process. Since May 2025 most US orders ship from sellers and warehouses inside the country (items carry a “Local Warehouse” tag); public guides in 2026 report roughly 5–10 business days for standard shipping and a few days for local-warehouse items. The delivery estimate is shown on each listing and at checkout — that number is the one that counts. Temu has offered a $5 (standard) / $13 (express) credit when an order misses its estimate; confirm the current amount at checkout before relying on it.

Returns
90 days; first return per order free, then $7.99 + tax
Details

Most items can be returned within 90 days of purchase (electronics: 45, 60 or 90 days depending on the seller). The first return of an order — one or several items — is free; further returns from the same order cost $7.99 plus tax, deducted from the refund. You must ship the return within 14 days of requesting it. Refunds go back to the original payment method in 5–14 business days (up to 30) or, faster, to Temu credit that does not expire. Worn or washed clothing, food, some personal-care items, free gifts, customised items and most underwear cannot be returned.

Price match
30 days, same item and shop, paid as Temu credit
Details

If the exact same item (same size and colour, same shop) drops in price within 30 days of your purchase, you can request the difference from My Orders → Price Adjustment. The difference is issued as Temu credit, not cash. Promotional, clearance and discontinued items are excluded — and on Temu a lot of listings are permanently “on sale”, so the strike-through price is not a reliable reference.

Support
24/7 chat, no email, phone not staffed for support
Details

Support is a chat in the app or on the site, available around the clock. There is no email support and Temu does not offer phone support, although a number is listed. Public complaint volumes are high: the Better Business Bureau shows a B rating (not accredited) with about 6,100 complaints on file, and Trustpilot shows 1.8/5 from roughly 55,000 reviews, 58% of them one star — mostly about missing deliveries, refund friction and promotional prices changing at checkout. Those samples are self-selected; they tell you what goes wrong, not how often.

Import fees
No import charges on “Local Warehouse” items
Details

The US duty-free “de minimis” allowance ended in 2025 (2 May for China and Hong Kong, 29 August for everyone). Temu responded by moving US fulfilment to domestic sellers and warehouses; items with the Local Warehouse tag ship from within the country and carry no import charges. If a listing ships from abroad, any import charge is shown at checkout — read the order total before you pay, not the item price.

Safety
Regulators found unsafe chargers and children’s items
Details

In May 2026 the European Union fined Temu €200 million under the Digital Services Act for failing to assess the risk of illegal products, citing baby toys with unsafe chemicals or detachable parts and phone chargers that failed basic safety tests; Temu disputes the size of the fine and says its systems have improved. In the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued recalls and warnings for items sold exclusively on Temu, including magnetic ball sets and projectile toy guns (2024). Treat electrical goods and anything for children as categories to buy elsewhere.

Home & kitchen

Worth it

  • Storage boxes, drawer organisers, hooks, cleaning brushes, silicone kitchen tools, dish racks, textiles
  • A low price buys roughly what the photo shows and a miss costs little

Skip

  • Small appliances, kettles, air fryers and anything with a heating element
  • Non-stick cookware with unknown coatings and food-contact plastics without a stated material
  • “Stainless steel” knives with no grade given

Check first

  • Dimensions in numbers, not “large”: many listings look bigger than they are
  • Material named explicitly (silicone, 304 stainless, borosilicate), or assume the cheapest option
  • The seller’s other listings: consistent photos and specs suggest a real shop

Phone accessories & electronics

Worth it

  • Phone cases, stands and mounts, screen protectors, cable organisers, passive accessories
  • Fit is the main risk, and the first free return covers it

Skip

  • Chargers, power banks, USB-C cables with high-wattage claims, smart watches, earbuds with headline specs
  • The marketplace does not verify claimed capacities or charging speeds
  • Chargers were named in the EU’s 2026 safety findings

Check first

  • Exact phone model and variant selected: one listing covers dozens of models
  • Anything electrical: a UL or ETL mark printed on the product itself
  • Return window on the listing: electronics can be 45 or 60 days

Skip

  • Jump starters, tyre inflators, power tools and batteries, dash cams with unverified specs
  • Anything load-bearing: jacks, ramps, tow straps
  • Failure here is expensive or dangerous

Check first

  • Rated load or torque in numbers, and a brand searchable outside Temu
  • Vehicle fit: listings often say “universal”, so measure the mount point first
  • Set or single piece: photos of sets appear on single-piece listings

Beauty & personal care

  • Cheap, replaceable, low stakes

Skip

  • Creams, serums, lash glue, teeth whitening: anything that goes on or in you
  • Heated tools (straighteners, dryers) and anything sold as “medical”
  • Ingredient lists and safety testing are not verified on the marketplace

  • Hygiene items are usually non-returnable once opened, as the listing says

Apparel basics & accessories

Worth it

  • Socks, hats, scarves, belts, tote bags, plain jewellery, basic tees and hoodies
  • Items where a sizing miss is survivable
  • Prices here are genuinely low for what arrives

Skip

  • Shoes, bras, tailored pieces and anything you need for a date
  • Sizing runs small and inconsistently between sellers
  • Worn or washed items cannot be returned

Check first

  • Size chart in centimetres against a garment you own, ignoring letter sizes
  • Fabric percentages stated: “cotton blend” without numbers usually means mostly polyester
  • Try on with tags attached, since returns require them

Crafts, party & stationery

Worth it

  • Beads, stickers, ribbon, iron-on transfers, diamond-painting kits, notebooks, balloons, banners, seasonal décor
  • Temu at its most sensible: cheap consumables where the photo is roughly what arrives
  • A miss costs a dollar or two

Skip

  • Anything with a heat source: glue guns, heat presses, candle-making kits
  • Craft supplies marketed for young children, and “non-toxic” claims with no standard behind them
  • Party décor needed by a date: order early or buy locally

Check first

  • Quantity and size in the text: “100 pcs” often means tiny pieces
  • For children’s items, the age grading and a named safety standard
  • The delivery estimate against your event date

Pets, outdoor & garden

Worth it

  • Pet toys without small parts, grooming brushes, bowls with a stated material, small-dog leashes

  • Garden tools for light use, planters and plant supports

Skip

  • Anything a pet can chew into pieces
  • Collars or harnesses that must hold a strong dog
  • Climbing or water-safety gear, outdoor electrics, and fitness equipment that bears your weight

Check first

  • Materials for anything a pet eats from or chews
  • Rated load for leashes, harnesses, hooks and anything you hang or pull
  • Dimensions of planters and tools: most are smaller than they look

Brand check

Does what arrives match what was promised, and what happens when it does not?

Worth trying if

  • You are buying simple, non-electrical items where a miss costs a few dollars and a free return.
  • You can wait for the delivery estimate shown at checkout and do not need the item by a fixed date.
  • You will read the size chart, material and dimensions rather than the photo.

Be careful if

  • The item plugs in, charges, heats up, or is for a baby or small child.
  • Fit or an exact specification matters (footwear, bras, memory cards, chargers).
  • You expect the crossed-out price to mean anything.

Use Temu for cheap, simple, replaceable things and read the listing like a contract: dimensions, materials, size chart, delivery estimate, return window. Skip electrical goods, children’s items and anything where an exact spec matters.

Questions

Is Temu legitimate?

A real marketplace run by PDD Holdings, with published return and refund rules. The risk is not vanishing money: it is an item that differs from the photo, arrives late, or, for electrical and children’s goods, has not been safety-tested to the standard you expect.

Why are the prices so low?

Many sellers, thin margins, minimal packaging, and products made to a price rather than to a specification. The strike-through “original” prices are marketing; compare against what the same item costs elsewhere, not against the crossed-out number.

How do you choose the picks on this page?

A script reads Temu’s catalog feed nightly and picks in-stock items per category priced roughly $5–60 with a plausible discount, recording the price it saw. Editors can pin, annotate or hide items. Nothing is chosen for its payout, and we have tested none of it.

Why does a pick show as sold out on Temu?

Two reasons. Temu’s feed refreshes daily and rarely flags stock, so cheap items can sell out before our next check, when we retire anything dropped or marked out of stock. And the picks are US listings: opened from abroad, Temu often shows them as unavailable.

Do you earn from these links?

Yes. Links to Temu are affiliate links and we may earn a commission on purchases at no extra cost to you. That does not change which categories we tell you to skip.
