What this site collects, what it does not, and how to reach us about your data.
In short
This site does not require an account, does not run advertising or analytics scripts, and sets no cookies of its own on the public pages. The data that exists is the web-server log every website keeps, anything you choose to email us, and — once you click an affiliate link — the click tracking performed by the affiliate network and the merchant on their own domains.
Server logs
Like every website, our servers record each request: the IP address it came from, the page requested, the time, and the browser identification string. These logs are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse. They are kept in rotating files on our hosting provider’s servers and overwritten within days; we do not build profiles from them. The site is hosted on servers operated by DigitalOcean, LLC.
Cookies and browser storage
The public site sets no cookies. A few features remember choices in your own browser’s local storage (for example, which items you have selected to compare, where that feature is offered); that information stays on your device and is not sent to us. The editorial back office at /admin sets a login cookie for our editors only.
Affiliate links
When you click a merchant link you leave this site and pass through an affiliate network’s tracking domain (for example Impact or Rakuten Advertising) before reaching the merchant. The network records the click and may set a cookie so that a purchase can be attributed to us; the merchant then processes your order under its own privacy policy. We receive aggregate click and sales reports, not your personal details. See the Affiliate disclosure page.
Email and forms
If you write to support@buybestproduct.net, we keep the correspondence for as long as we need it to deal with your message and for our records, and use your address only to reply. The newsletter sign-up box, where shown, states plainly when no mailing service is connected; no address is stored until one is, and this page will be updated when that happens.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object to our processing, by emailing support@buybestproduct.net. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to a data-protection authority. We do not sell personal data.
Children
The site is written for adults making purchases and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
When our practices change — for instance if we add analytics or a mailing service — this page changes first and the date at the top moves.
